Dynamics of photosynthetic membranes in relation to the efficiency of electron transfer in different stages of photosynthetic chain

Dynamics of the protein component, polar and nonpolar parts of lipid components of the photosynthetic membranes for 3 species of purple bacteria were studied at different humidity by H-1, C-13 and P-31 NMR spectroscopy in comparison with functional characteristics and other data. A number of differences between these membranes was determined, analysis of which allows to establish relation between the appearance of different types of dynamics and the efficiency of electron transfer within 4 stages of photosynthetic chain. The mechanisms of influence of dynamics on efficiency of electron transfer are discussed. Two stages of the hydration of membranes are distinguished which related to incorporating water molecules into hydrogen bonds and the emergence of water with high dielectric constant.
