Experimental set-up and data processing of the radial strip-drawing friction test

摘要
Radial strip drawing is a commonly used method to obtain friction coefficients for deep-drawing. As will be shown in this paper, the method of data processing is a key element in deriving valid friction coefficients. It is established that the application of the pulley equation for this test is invalid, a better method of data processing being given? with its modified test set-up, the test set-up needing some modification because this method can be applied only when the frictional torque on the tool is measured also. To show the differences between the two methods, FEM analysis of strip drawing is used. It is concluded that the proposed experimental set-up, combined with the subsequent data processing, can improve the quality of the calculated friction coefficient. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science S.A.
