Familiar accumulation of advanced gastric carcinoma with good prognosis

In this report, we described four cases of gastric cancer which occurred in 10 siblings. AIL cases were treated surgically and have been observed by the authors. The specimens were classified according to the General Rules for the Gastric Cancer Study in Surgery and Pathology (11th ed.) and had follow-up for as long as 23 years. All four cases were males and advanced at presentation The average age was 62 years at the operation. Three cases demonstrate no evidence of disease at more than 5 years, and one case died 23 years later because of senility. In this family, the prognosis of patients was extremely good. This result is unusual in hereditary cancer. It remains to be determined why the prognosis of this familiar cancer is good. Further study in genetics may reveal the mechanism.
