Supercontinuum generation in erbium-doped photonic crystal fibers

摘要
We report on the generation of supercontinuum using Er-doped photonic crystal fibers in the sub-nanosecond pump regime. Fibers with zero the dispersion wavelength close to the pump wavelength, and with two different Er-doped concentrations were fabricated and investigated. Evidences of the erbium ions contribution to the nonlinear refractive index are also presented. Square-shaped supercontinuum spectra are enabled by a long wavelength absorption mechanism, which is observed in the case of using a fiber with high Er concentration. The broadest supercontinuum spectrum spanning from 530 nm to well beyond 1750 nm was obtained with a fiber length of 3 m and a pump peak power of 4.6 kW.
