One new phosphorescent polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) material consisting of one red emissive Ir(III) complex unit and seven carbazole moieties covalently attached to a POSS core was successfully synthesized and characterized. The phosphorescent POSS material had good thermal stability due to the significant effect of the POSS core, and its photoluminescence and electroluminescence performances were improved because the POSS core reduced interactions among the emissive units and diminished concentration quenching. Solution processed light-emitting device based on the POSS material showed a maximum current efficiency of 433 cd/A with Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.67, 0.28).
