The characterization of passive films on Fe-Si alloy in boiling sulfuric acid

摘要
Fe-20%Si alloy prepared by arc melting of iron and silicon was annealed at 1100°C for 1 week in a vacuum. Ground specimens were placed in a glass cradle and held in a glass container of 1000 ml capacity equipped with a circulation cooling tube and immersed in 50 or 95% sulfuric acids at the boiling temperature. The specimens were weighed to yield a corrosion rate. The passive films on the specimens were evaluated in terms of the appearance, Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) analysis and X-ray Photo-electron Spectroscopy (XPS) analysis.
