摘要
This paper discusses the availability of solid waste in Brunei Darussalam and analysis of results of the two selected types of wastes (Wood waste and coconut husk) and subsequent recommendations for potential utilisation. The amount, composition and their current uses are discussed. Calorific values, ash content and elemental analysis tests were done for nine types of wood waste and coconut husk. Results to date have indicated little or no use for wood waste at present. Waste coconut husk is currently utilised as fire-starter for barbeque fuel, and it is expected from the studies that the future use will remain the same. Both of this waste biomass does not emit additional carbon dioxide and based on elemental analysis, results to date, has shown less sulphur than other fossil fuels. It is therefore expected that burning of these wastes for energy production would not have adverse negative impact towards the environment.
