摘要
Glasses containing bismuth oxide (Bi2O3) deserve large attention because of the broad band photoluminescence from 1000 to 1600 nm due to bismuth ions. The effect of the processing conditions (crucible type, melting temperature and Bi2O3 concentration) on the preparation of different GeO2-Bi2O3 glasses is presented. The influence of these parameters on the optical performance of the glasses has to be considered when using them for near-infrared broadband devices applications in the near-infrared region. The results show that glasses with the starting composition of 62Bi(2)O(3)-38GeO(2) (in wt%) have large potential to be used as devices requiring intense and large bandwidth luminescence in the 1200-1600 nm region.
