Process and Mechanism of in situ Preparation of Ceramic Coatings on Zr-4 Alloy

摘要
ZrO2 ceramic coatings were formed by micro arc oxidation (MAO) on Zr-4 in mixed electrolyte of calcium glycerophosphate and calcium acetate, with DC pulse power. Microstructure, element composition and distribution and phase composition of the coatings were examined using SEM, XRD and EDS. The results reveal that a dense layer of ceramic oxide film is formed in the electrolyte containing Ca and P by the MAO method. Pores formed by the discharge channels distribute uniformly on the coatings surface, and the inner layer is dense. The principal crystalline phases of the MAO coatings are c-ZrO2 and t-ZrO2, and only trace amounts of m-ZrO2 phase exist. The transition area between the coatings and the base alloy is metallurgical bonding, and the bonding strength is strong.
