Different ion kinds of surfactants were selected to improve the dyeing property of Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) fiber dyed with disperse dyes. The dye up-take and color depth in the presence of two cationic Gemini surfactants (D821 and D1021) were significantly larger than those of the other surfactants. The results showed that both D821 and D1021 had abilities to improve the solubility of disperse dyes in the dye bath and had capacities of stronger adsorption on PLA fiber, which were beneficial to shift more disperse dyes to PLA fiber from the dye bath. It could be concluded that the two kinds of cationic Gemini surfactants could be used to improve dye up-take of disperse dyes on PLA.
