We demonstrate a wideband reconfigurable double-negative metamaterial using a complementary split-ring resonator with a via-hole in a planar microstrip line. The resonator is made of quad-rings, which are grounded using the via-hole. By tailoring the quad-rings with switches, reconfigurability was implemented and the isotropic nature was investigated. The equivalent circuit was proposed. The effective permittivity and permeability were extracted using the Ziolkowski method. Excellent agreements between the developed circuit model and experiment results were achieved. (c) 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 55:2687-2690, 2015
