Ideology, politics and psychiatry

The author attends to the influence of ideology and politics to psychiatry in several times and countries. First he outlines the history of the Image of mentally ill persons between magic and demonic people. He describes the change of psychiatry as a medical science in the 19th and 20th century, especially the development of biological psychiatry. Afterwards two totalitarian regimes and their influence to psychiatry are discussed, Hitler's Germany and Stalinistic Russia. Ar, last the author mentions the situation of ideology and psychiatry in the post-communistic Russia and the necessity for engagement of psychiatrists in society.
