Transformation of a gaussian laser beam to an Airy pattern for use in focal plane intensity shaping using diffractive optics

摘要
A method for converting a gaussian law beam into a propagating Airy pattern is described using a diffractive optic. This propagating Airy pattern is focused by a lens to obtain a flat top intensity at the focal plane. The technique is based on the idea of Fourier transform pairs and produces a small spot diameter with a useable depth of field. Experimental results will be presented for round and square focused uniform intensity profiles. A focused uniform intensity profile can prove useful for many laser applications.
