Service - the secret of success

FLSmidth MAAG Gear, a supplier of gear units, in 2011 conducted a major overhaul of its P2U3 gearbox that was purchased by Holcim Untervaz/Switzerland in 1972. The overhaul work on the gearbox, which worked approx. 200000 operating hours, included obligatory tests regarding the condition of the internal and external parts of the gear were carried out, on site and also in laboratories. FLSmidth MAAG Gear recommended a service intervention once per year and a regular maintenance work done by the maintenance team of the plant, ensuring long life and reliable operation. The toothing specialists inspected the parts visually and confirmed their good condition. The stripes visible on the teeth of the sun pinion are caused by the starting process of the mill. Results from the inspection showed regular servicing signs of wear and tear and upcoming overhauls can be planned properly, which could significantly reduce the risk of a breakdown and a loss of production.
