摘要
In this study, the friction properties and wear performances of monolayer and multilayer coating structures operating under hydrodynamic, mixed and boundary lubrications have been evaluated using a ball-on-disc configuration. Results showed that, whereas no major differences in terms of frictional properties and wear performances were observed in both coatings under hydrodynamic lubrication, the multilayer Sn-based coating exhibited significantly lower coefficient of friction and superior resistance against wear when mixed and boundary lubrication conditions are established. Post-test investigation revealed how intermetallic compound layer within multilayer Sn-based coating system contributed to its enhanced frictional properties and resistance to wear, enabling the multilayer Sn-based coating to adapt to more aggressive operating conditions and provide a superior performance under mixed and boundary lubrications.
