摘要
Prevention of cardiovascular disease in diabetes is a key goal for the physician as cardiovascular disease is the primary cause of death in patients with diabetes, ahead of cancer. Cardiovascular risk is about two times higher among diabetic patients as compared to non-diabetic individuals of similar age. Peripheral arterial disease is three times more common in diabetic patients than in a non-diabetic population. In France, incidence of stroke is higher than that of myocardial infarction in diabetic individuals. Recent data on mortality support the view that diabetes is a cardiovascular disease equivalent in secondary prevention. Compelling recent evidence show a greater excess risk in women with diabetes as compared to men, which suggests to optimize cardio-vascular prevention among women with diabetes.
