Social and personal domains of self-concept

The study of the self-concept continues being one of the big challenges of the psychological research. A wide field of research in which both the physical and the academical dimension have been an object of numerous investigations; on the contrary a few investigations has been carried out on the social self-concept or on the personal self-concept. In this work are reported of two studies carried out in order to check if the factorial analyses confirm a multidimensional structure of three components in the social one (the social responsibility, the social acceptance and the social competence) and of four components in the personal (the self-fulfilment, the honesty, the autonomy, and the emotional adjusment). The results obtained from the application of two questionnaires elaborated specifically to measure both domains (APE and AUSO) confirm mostly this structure; the identified factors explain 41,43% and 52,56%, respectively, of the variance. On the other hand, the indexes of internal consistency are acceptable in both cases: alpha 0.76 in the APE and alpha 0.78 in the AUSO. Some changes may be incorporated in the definitive version of both questionnaires.
