摘要
Energy efficiency is considered a critical technical parameter for the performance evaluation, sizing, and design of control strategies of grid-connected battery systems. Therefore, measurement of the energy efficiency of grid-connected battery systems is necessary. In this paper, the experimental evaluation and measurement of the energy efficiency of a small-scale grid-connected NiMH battery system are presented. The studied system consists of 3 Ah NiMH battery packs interfaced to the grid via a conventional power conditioning converter. First, the energy efficiency of two battery packs with different voltage ratings was evaluated at various battery current rates. Next, the energy efficiency of the power conditioning converter was measured for charging and discharging scenarios at the different current settings. Finally, the effect of the charge recovery phenomenon on the battery energy performance was investigated under the charge and discharge conditions of the primary frequency control application.
