摘要
In this paper, the characterization of the biodiesel obtained from Jatropha curcas L oil was carried out and its properties were compared with the specifications of the Brazilian standard. The best operation conditions were determined for the transesterification reaction finding that at 60 degrees C, concentration of catalyst 0.8 % wt., reaction time 30 minutes and methanol/oil molar rate 9:1, if sodium hydroxide is used, or 6:1 if sodium methoxide is used, conversions higher than 96 % are reached. Biodiesel was tested on a single-cylinder diesel engine Petter, vertical type to verify its performance when biodiesel or diesel fuels were used. The degree of influence was established, when diesel fuel was completely substituted by biodiesel from Jatropha curcas L oil, at fixed torque and the fuel specific consumption (401-507 g/kWh) by a gravimetric method was measured for a B100 (100 % biodiesel).
