Using the Heegaard Floer homology of Ozsvdth and Szabo we investigate obstructions to a rational homology sphere bounding a four-manifold with a definite intersection pairing. As an application we obtain new lower bounds for the four-ball genus of Montesinos links. (c) 2005 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
