Two lakes-Bolshoye Miassovo and Turgoyak-are used as an example to discuss long-term variations in the structure of phytoplankton and to assess (using indication) the current trends in water quality changes in deep mountain lakes of the South Urals. It is shown that the seasonal dynamics of phytoplankton biomass and structure is characterized by long-term variations caused by anthropogenic and natural climatic impacts. The regularities in restructuring of different phytoplankton communities under anthropogenic impact are much in common. Cases of local pollution, which influence the characteristics of phytoplankton, are revealed in all water areas of the lakes.
