Vine parcel detection in aerial images combining textural and structural approaches

Aerial images with submetre resolution now offer the opportunity of new agricultural management applications. In the Bacchus European project, the general objective is to propose improved methodologies to get required information on vine area location and characteristics. For this purpose, image processing algorithms for automatic vineyard detection have been developed, which are based on textural analysis. Shape regularity constraints have also been introduced to improve the image segmentation. Finally, the vineyard plots detected from these previous steps are checked and characterised using a Fourier spectrum analysis. The whole process has been applied on a test image representing a vineyard crop area of about 0.5 km(2) showing very good segmentation performance.
