A finite volume scheme for the lattice Boltzmann method is developed for unstructured triangular meshes in two dimensions. The accuracy of this new scheme is demonstrated by comparing the numerical results with the exact solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations for Taylor vortex flow, shear flow between two parallel plates, shear flow between two rotating cylinders, and Poiseuille flow. The agreement between the numerical and analytical results is very good for each of these tests.
