摘要
The present work is one of the first paleosol studies aimed at the reconstruction of the Late Pleistocene (40000-10000 BP) bioclimatic environment in the south of Central Mexico. Two paleosol profiles buried under volcanic-sedimentary deposits and one surface paleosol were studied by morphological, physicochemical, and mineralogical methods. The genetic analysis of these paleosols permits us to identify them as Luvisols developed in the cool humid climate under forest vegetation. They differ significantly from the Holocene Andosols. The correlation of paleopedological, paleobotanical, geological, and geomorphologic data suggests at least two intervals in the Late Pleistocene favorable for Luvisol formation within the Trans-Mexican volcanic belt.
