Updating The Weaving in Traditional Culture: The Example Of Gaziantep Kutnu Fabric

摘要
Undoubtedly, the primary material creating the clothing itself is the weaving of fabric and its development in historical process. And the weaving of fabric is a cultural heritage traced from past to present. This heritage has shaped the traditional apparel, become a traditional profession, the patterns and symbols which are the embroidery style of weaving have been considered as folk art, the style and yarn of weaved fabric have been perceived as the determinant of financial status and position in society, the roads where the fabrics have been transported have become commercial centers and called the Silk Road. Industrialization movements that gained a great speed in the 19th century extended into the field of weaving and as a result, the form of textile changed its fabrication and reached to the large masses of the society in a short time. In addition to all this process, the concept called "fashion" walking arm in arm with the textile industry has deeply influenced both the type of the traditional weaving, therefore the way of dressing be addressed: Is the traditionalism re-fictionalized by fashion? Are the products becoming a sector of cultural economy? Are clothing and weaving taken under protection by new designs through traditional weaving and to what extend are the Kutnu masters protected in these processes? In this article, these questions and the processes in traditional clothing are assessed through Kutnu fabric.
