RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN PHYSICAL SELF-CONCEPT, PHYSICAL FITNESS, MOTOR COORDINATION, AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY OF SECONDARY STUDENTS

This study aimed to analyze the relationships between the physical self-concept, physical fitness, motor coordination, and extracurricular physical activity levels of secondary school-students. The sample represents 135 students (60 males and 75 females) from first and second grade of secondary education (M-age = 13.27, SD =.75). Correlation analyses showed that physical self-concept was associated with all the variables analyzed. Moreover, a multiple regression analysis indicated that physical fitness was the best predictor of physical self-concept. Finally, a MANOVA 2 x 2 (gender*extracurricular sport practice) showed that females scored higher in physical fitness tan males, and males scored higher in physical self-concept). Likewise, participants who practice extracurricular sports showed higher levels of physical self-concept and better physical fitness.
