Photoelectrochemical studies on stationary surface modified CdSe electrodes

Photoelectrochemical studies on surface modified CdSe with poly[Os(v-bpy)(3)](2+) or with poly[Fe(v-bpy)(2)(CN)(2)](+) have been performed in Fe(CN)(6)(-4/-3) and I-3(-)/I- redox systems. The modification has been carried out by electropolymerization of either [Os(v-bpy)(3)](2+) or [Fe(v-bpy)(2)(CN)(2)](+) (v-bpy is 4-vinyl-4-methyl-2,2-bipyridine) on the surface of CdSe electrodes. Ionic size, charge, pairing, and diffusion of the electrolyte redox anions, and the exclusion properties of the modifying polymer are used to rationalize the observed polymer/semiconductor interface behavior. Photoelectrochemical cells based on modified CdSe electrodes have also been investigated. Studies indicate that these cells exhibit better I-V characters than those cells based on modified CdSe with polyethylene oxide solid electrolyte. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
