The South American genusScatonomusis revised. Diagnoses, descriptions, distribution data, an identification key and illustrations are provided for the 11 species assigned to the genus, including the new speciesScatonomus canhedoaesp. nov.,Scatonomus mitzaesp. nov. andScatonomus forestisp. nov.Scatonomus barbatus, which has been historically regarded as a variety ofS. fasciculatus, is revalidated. A new synonymy, ofS. xanthopygusPereira withScatonomus chalybaeusErichson, is proposed.Scatonomus lauropaluiVulcano and Pereira is transferred toAnomiopusWestwood, 1842.
