摘要
IEEE 802.15.4 is the standard for short range Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN). It is targeted for battery powered applications where a long battery life is the main requirement. Most of the device energy is spent for radio communication, where packet collision, caused due to a hidden node problem, is one of the main sources of unnecessary energy waste. IEEE 802.15.4 standard does not originally provide any protection from hidden node collisions. This paper shows influences of hidden node problem on the overall network performances and presents the RTS/CTS handshake mechanism which can be successfully used to prevent hidden node collisions in IEEE 802.15.4 wireless networks.
