CANTIMORI, MARX AND MARXISM

The essay focuses on the relationship between the historiographical works of Delio Cantimori and the Marxist tradition. It aims to reconstruct the stages and the conceptual framework of Cantimori's reading of Marxian works from the early Thirties to the late Forties. The interest for the Marxist tradi tion, especially for the works of German scholars like Korsch and Rosenberg, is not directly connected to Cantimori's conversion' to Communism from Fascism, but to his reflections on ideologies and contemporary politics, on the relationships between philosophy and politics, and on the nature and the tasks of historiography.
