摘要
Some of the significant existing and potential prospects of cryptophanes and their complexes are discussed. Cryptophanes continue to be used as a major source for designing molecular cavities. A number of researchers have made efforts to investigate the synthesis of the cryptophanes and their binding properties with charged or neutral small molecules. Several significant advancements have been made in the field, due to adoption of new synthetic strategies that lead to new applications in the fields of molecular recognition and sensor devices. Researchers are increasingly focusing on these cryptophanes and their complexes for designing molecular cavities, due to a number of factors. They are being considered as one of the first molecular hosts that are able to isolate a substrate from the neighboring environment, defining certain properties related to the inner phase.
