An understanding of flow resistance due to gravel bed is the most basic knowledge required by hydraulic engineers for determining stage and discharge characteristics of river courses. In the present study, a laboratory experiment has been carried out in order to investigate the flow resistance law for a straight gravel-bed open-channel with different bed slopes and flow rates. It turns out that roughness length scale (k(s)) is dependent on the bed slope (S-0) and increases as S-0 increase. The profiles of mean streamwise velocity agree well with the common distribution law. The effects of bed slopes and relative submergence on flow resistance were further analyzed.
