Oxygen annealing and superconductivity of HgBa2Ca2Cu3O8+y thin films

We studied the effects of oxygen-annealing temperature on the superconductivity of epitaxial HgBa2Ca2Cu3O8+y thin films fabricated by pulsed laser deposition. The highest transition temperature of 133 K for the films grown on (100) SrTiO3 was obtained after oxygen annealing at 340 degrees C for 12 h. The observed critical current density of 1.9 x 10(7) A/cm(2) at 10 K, and 2.6 x 10(5) A/cm(2) at 120 K in zero-field is high enough for the application of the superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs) operated at 120 K. A dimensional crossover from 3D to 2D vortex states is observed from the temperature dependence of the irreversibility line. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
