This paper explains the powerful security features of the TPM chip and the associated Embedded Security for HP ProtectTools, Security Manager and Credential Manager software that HP makes available to its customers. TPMs are a critical technology to look at it in the identity and access management (IDM) space: they can provide strong identity data protection services and strong user and device authentication. The Windows platform may play an important role in the widespread adoption of the TPM when Microsoft will make TPM-enabled security features available in the Longhorn OS codebase.
