Enhanced irradiation cross-linking of polycarbosilane

摘要
In an attempt to reduce irradiation dose and make cheap 'Hi-Nicalcon' fibers, the electron beam (EB) irradiation cross-linking of vinyl-containing polycarbosilane (Vi-PCS) fibers was studied. Measurements of melting point, gel content, thermogravimetric analysis, and infrared (IR) spectra were carried out on the irradiated precursors or fibers to observe the effect of vinyl or absorbed dose. It was observed that the required dose for infusibilization and the gel dose both decreased rapidly when the vinyl content was increased.
