摘要
Gyro-averaged equations, valid near an arbitrary resonance, are developed both directly from the Lorentz equations and from a Hamiltonian approach. The Hamiltonian development, with several significant approximations, gives a reduction to a much lower dimensional system, which can be approximated analytically. Previous treatments of diffusion, phase bunching, and phase trapping are reviewed and extended in various ways. These results, and future work along these lines, may allow practical, long-term modeling of nonlinear wave-particle interactions in the radiation belts.
