Acute Infection and Myocardial Infarction

To the Editor: Musher et al. (Jan. 10 issue)(1) propose that clinicians may be able to reduce the high incidence of myocardial infarction among patients with acute infection if they do not dismiss elevated troponin levels as "troponin leaks." However, the authors do not include further discussion of the problem of troponin testing and the management of elevated troponin levels in patients with severe infections.
