Measurement of tooth morphology using a laser probe fitted on a co-ordinate measuring machine

Three dimensional measurements of tooth morphology are demanded in various areas of dental research. This can be realised using a Go-ordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) with an optical probe. In order to achieve accurate digitisation of sculptured surfaces like tooth surface, it is necessary to study the measurement errors involving different scanning parameters. This paper discussed the characteristics of the probe error distribution in relation to the measurement of tooth morphology.
