摘要：

The purpose of this article is to analyze the causes of Romania's position in the 2009-2010 global competitiveness ranking. The study focuses on the main twelve pillars on which the global competitiveness index is based on and the ranking achieved by Romania for each of them. Our research point out the disparities between Romania and other member states regarding the basic requirements of competitiveness, the efficiency enhancers and the innovation and sophistication factors. We first establish the trend Romania follows regarding its competitiveness and the causes which determined it. Secondly, we compare the main achievements regarding each pillar for Romania compared to the ones of other Member States. Based on the results of the analysis we recommend some measures for enhancing Romania's competitiveness in the current European economic environment.
