Traditional networks use generally shortest path routing which leads to single path transmission between a source to a destination, and makes it difficult to improve the quality of service (QoS), especially for the real-time media like speech communication. We propose in this paper a real-time media transmission method based on multipath named VN-based multipath switching (VNMPS) in network layer, and it is tested in the Vector Network (VN), which is a new type of connection-oriented communication network, and can provide a multipath mechanism. In this paper, we introduce the concepts and characteristics of Vector Network, and discuss the way of real-time media transmission in the network. This paper presents a network node model for Vector Network. We have carried out simulation experiments and analyzed results using OMNeT Simulator. Experiments show that it can reduce the packet loss and time delay of end to end, and it has the potentiality to setup a network with high reliability and low delay.
