A novel lead vanadophosphate, PbVOP2O7, has been synthesized. This phase crystallizes in the Pnma space group with a = 8.899(1) Angstrom, b = 7.534(1) Angstrom, and c = 9.142(1) Angstrom. The [VP2O8](infinity) framework consists of ReO3-type [VO3](infinity) chains running along (b) over right arrow, interconnected through P2O7 groups forming large intersecting tunnels running along (b) over right arrow, (a) over right arrow, and (c) over right arrow, respectively, where the Pb2+ cations are located. This is the second lead vanadophosphate, beside Pb(VO)(3)(P2O7)(2), that consists Of [VO3](infinity) chains interconnected by P2O7 groups. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science.
