PreMoSt -: On-the-fly monitoring and steering of parallel programs

Program analysis for performance evaluation and error debugging faces many serious difficulties. One of these problems is the long execution time, which is characteristic of many parallel and distributed applications in the computational science domain. This problem is addressed by the PreMoSt monitoring tool, which attaches itself on-the-fly to arbitrary parallel processes, allows to perform sophisticated monitoring and steering activities', and detaches itself again afterwards. In contrast to other program analysis tools, the target application needs not be prepared prior to the initiation of the monitoring activities. This offers interesting new possibilities for program analysis tasks.
