Ceramic Particulate Reinforced Aluminum Metal Matrix Composite Foams Produced from Extruded Powder Compacts

摘要
Aluminum metal matrix composite (MME) foams are produced from extruded powder compacts. Effect of ceramic particulate type and amount on the expansion and stability of the MMC foams is discussed in the light of macro and inicrostructural observations. Foaming of extruded powder compacts with ceramic particulates leads to accelerated foaming with finer and more uniform cell structures. This structure is believed to be as a result of homogeneous distribution of ceramic particles segregated between the metal and gas interface during foaming giving improved foam stability.
