A Turtle Disaster: Salmonella enteritidis Cardiovascular Implantable Electronic Device Infection

Cardiovascular implantable electronic device (CIED) infections have high mortality and morbidity. CIED infections secondary to gram-negative pathogens are rare, and there are few data regarding their treatment. We report a case of a 60-year-old male who developed recurrent Salmonella enteritidis bacteremia leading to CIED infection and nonsusceptibility to ciprofloxacin. We report a case of Salmonella enteritidis cardiovascular implanted electronic device (CIED) infection with development of drug resistance and discuss treatment options for gram-negative CIED infections. Patients with CIED infections often have delays to appropriate management leading to poor outcomes.
