摘要
The in vitro antibacterial and antimycotic activity of five (N1 - N5) novel molecular complexes of 1,10-phenanthroline and 5-amino-1,10-phenanthroline were investigated. They were previously obtained via self-assembly processes and do not belong to any known group of antibiotics. The Escherichia coli cells were affected in highest level by substance N4, while the Saccharomyces cerevisiae were inhibited in highest level by N3. For bacterial cells complex N4 demonstrated minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) 1.05 mu g disk content and 7.3 mm mean inhibition zone. For yeast cells N3 revealed MIC 4.5 mu g disk content and 8.0 mm mean inhibition zone. The N3 and N4 showed similar level of cell viability compared with control antibiotics as ampicillin and kanamycin. The N3 substance was analyzed for mitotic exit and spindle orientation inhibition in yeasts as a model of higher eukaryotic organisms and results demonstrated that such effects were not observed. These molecular complexes could be promising candidates for future use like antimicrobial agents in human and veterinary medicine.
