摘要
Sepsis is still associated with very high morbidity and mortality. Continuous improvements in the early recognition and management of this syndrome are thus necessary. The 2016 Surviving Sepsis Campaign sepsis guideline presents current evidence and consequences in the management of sepsis. This new guideline came at the beginning of the paradigm shift in sepsis definition, whereby the influence of the current sepsis definition on the management of sepsis is yet to be seen. Despite tremendous research efforts, several recommendations in the new sepsis guideline have a weak to moderate evidence grade. Several issues, such as the effect of the Sepsis-3 definition on the early recognition of sepsis, the selection of appropriate fluid and antibiotic therapy, as well as individualizing sepsis management are yet to be addressed. Therefore, the current guideline is also a call for the intensive care community for more and better research on sepsis treatment. © 2017, Springer Medizin Verlag GmbH.
