摘要
The Twin-Plant or maquiladora industry is currently facing extremely high labor turnover rates. This problem results in low production efficiency and quality problems. The most common approach used by the maquiladoras management to deal with the problem has been to implement salary and rewards systems that entices the worker not to leave the company. However, given the environment surrounding the maquiladora industry such as competition from new maquiladoras seeking to hire away employees, and continuous devaluation of the Mexican currency, this approach has not reached the desired reduction in labor turnover. This paper will focus on different approach to attack the problem: coping with the existing labor turnover by designing production Lines that are less sensitive to it. In particular we will present a case study of the introduction of the bucket-brigade production approach to a wire-harness serial assembly line.
