The Software History Center (SHC) and its successor, the Software Industry Special Interest Group (SI SIG), have collected, preserved, and communicated software industry history. Researchers used three primary collection approaches, such as pioneer meetings, oral histories, and materials collection. For preservation, they have posted the edited transcripts of the meetings and oral histories on the Charles Babbage Institute (CBI) and the Computer History Museum (CHM) websites and archived the materials collections at CBI and CHM. Pioneer meetings have been the primary method used to collect software history information.
