摘要
Compared with the traditional large dynode photomultiplier tube (PMT), the small size microchannel plate (MCP) PMT has better time properties. In particular, the small size MCP-PMT of proximity focusing construction has many advantages such as excellent time characteristics and strong magnetic field resistance. The time characteristics of various 1 inch fast timing MCP-PMTs (FPMTs) are tested under different light intensity in our laboratory. Two methods are adopted to test time characteristics. The result shows that the minimum value of the time resolution can be fitted by testing the change of transition time spread (TTS) with photoelectrons. In addition, the magnetic field does not have much effect on the time resolution of the FPMT.
