The evaluation of parasitic diseases in farm animals in North-Eastern Anatolian Region of Turkey

This study was carried out to determine and to evaluate the prevalence of parasitic diseases within the last five years (2002 - 2007). in north-eastern Anatolian region of Turkey. Routine parasitological examinations were performed on live animals, cadavers, organs, blood and feces which were parasitically Suspected and brought to Erzurum Veterinarian Control and Research Institute Parasitology Laboratories. Out of 241 inspected samples, parasitic diseases were identified in 113 (46.7%). Most of the cases were brought from Erzurum 62% (70/113), Agri 9.7% (11/113), and Igdir 8% (9/113). In addition to these mentioned cases, 7 cases from Artvin, 6 from Bayburt, 3 each from Ardahan and Erzincan, 2 from Gumushane, 1 each case from Bingol and Kars provinces were diagnosed and recorded. Parasitic diseases were discovered in the materials coming from the hosts: 45 cattle (39.8%), 35 sheep (31%), 22 apiary (19.5%), 2 goats, 3 chicken, 5 rabbits, and 1 fish. it has been observed that most of the cases were brought to the laboratories from the region were suspected to be babesiosis or theileriosis. After the inspections and examinations 47% (53/113) of the cases with a disease turned out to be babesiosis or theileriosis.
